Description | The 'Dancing Procession ' held annually in Echternach on the Tuesday after Whitsun originates from the time of St Willibrord, a Northumbrian Saint. St Willibrord was born in Northumbria in 658 AD. He became a monk and travelled to Echternach, where he built an abbey and this became a major centre for Christianity. St Willibrord died in Echternach in 739 AD. Today the 'Dancing Procession' is a pilgrimage in his honour. |
