| Description | Records of the Freemen of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Freemens Trustees from 1835 when municipal reform and legislation replaced the Guild of Freemen with an elected Town Council to administer local government in the Borough . This group of records includes the governance of the Guild after the Municipal Corporations Act was passed, admissions to Freedom of the Borough, legal disputes with the Town Council and others over the extent of Freemen rights and lands and the administrative records of the Freemen Trust that was established to protect their interests and manage their assets. There is also a series of deeds and property titles: full access to these is restricted because recent transactions may contain commercially sensitive information.
